Bill Murray is bartending at the grand opening of 21 Greenpoint this weekend

No, this isn’t just another tall tale about a possible Bill Murray sighting. This isn’t just another myth about the urban legend, that we can’t actually confirm.

bill-murray-suntory-lost-in-translationActor Bill Murray, himself, will be bartending on Friday and Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. at 21 Greenpoint, a new bar opening that’s owned in part by Murray’s son, Homer.

Homer Murray and fellow owner Syd Silver are opening 21 Greenpoint in place of their last venture, River Styx. The transformation to an upscale dining spot includes renovations to the dining room, kitchen, and bar. The food, Homer says, “will be seasonal and exclusively from local farms.”

What to expect on the two opening nights? “We want people to come and have fun,” says Homer Murray. “People can walk in; just be nice.”

As for the people who question Bill Murray’s mixology skills, “What my dad lacks in experience… he makes up for in tequila,” says Homer.

“Opening night is really about the transformation of an already awesome place into an even better venue in our neighborhood. It’s not about Bill Murray,” said lifelong Greenpoint resident, Rocco Rubino. Just kidding, it’s about Bill f****** Murray,” said the 27-year-old.

Although Bill may have trouble making your “sex on the beach” … who cares about you.

Maybe bar patrons will have a story to tell that will land in the “11 Greatest Bill Murray Stories Ever Told” list; and that’s enough for a visit to the newly transformed 21 Greenpoint.

Send a pic(s) of yourself with Bill Murray to news@queensledger.com for a chance to be in the next issue of the Greenpoint Star Newspaper.

With McGolrick Park’s brand new native plant garden, which is designed to attract native birds, what better way to explore the garden than with the Audubon Society?

On Wednesday, September 7th at 8 a.m., NYC Audubon is hosting a bird survey, where you can help count birds and other wildlife at McGolrick Park to see what species are using and benefiting from the urban garden. The bird survey is also taking place on Tuesday, October 4th.

The following week, on Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30 p.m., NYC Audubon is leading a free interpretive walk of the park’s native plant garden. They’ll highlight the native plants and will also point out birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

Hope you’ll join us!

A 49-year-old woman who pulled over to fix a flat tire on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway right over Apollo Street was struck and killed on Monday afternoon.

Police say that Aissatou Diallo, from Staten Island, had left her 2005 Chevy to fix her flat tire. A good Samaritan driving a 1997 Toyota Rav4 pulled up to help Diallo out.

While they were standing outside their cars, a 43-year-old driver, later identified as Vladimir Menin from Fort Lee, New Jersey, struck the Chevy from behind, which then hit the pedestrians.

Diallo was thrown over the highway barrier and into the roadway in Greenpoint.

Police found Diallo’s body on the pavement on Meeker Avenue, and she was immediately taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Menin’s car, a 2011 BMW, continued to hit the Toyota Rav4 before it stopped. Menin was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

He has been charged with manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI (driving while intoxicated), reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operator vehicle.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
