Join the North Brooklyn Boat Club this weekend for yet another epic boatyard party and fundraiser!

There will be the four Bs: bands, beers, barbecue, and other course boats.

It will be hosted at the Broadway Stags boatyard under the Pulaski Bridge (437 McGuinness Boulevard) on Saturday, September 17 from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Get there early because it’s $5 before 7 p.m. and $10 after. All benefits go to the boat club.

22-year-old man shot dead in Williamsburg

Police_Line_Crime_Scene_2498847226Police say that 22-year-old Jesus Pimentel of the Bronx was shot and killed in Williamsburg at the wee hours of the morning.

At approximately 1:28 a.m., authorities responded to calls of a man who was assaulted at North 6th Street and Kent Avenue. When they arrived, they found Pimentel with gunshot wounds to his chest and right leg.

When EMS arrived, they transferred him to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There have been no arrests made so far, and authorities are still investigating.

Williamsburg biker steals driver’s sunglasses

Police are looking for a bicyclist who punched a driver in Williamsburg and then stole his sunglasses.

Authorities say that on Friday, August 19, at about 1:40 p.m., a 22-year-old man was waiting on a red light at the intersection of Wythe Avenue and South 6th Street in Williamsburg.

All of a sudden, a woman riding a bike approached the man and punched him, causing cuts on the side of his face.

She then took his sunglasses and left toward Kent Avenue.

Join NYC Audubon for bird surveys and native plant walk at McGolrick Park

With McGolrick Park’s brand new native plant garden, which is designed to attract native birds, what better way to explore the garden than with the Audubon Society?

NYC Audubon is inviting you to two events in the coming weeks where you can learn all about this new “urban oasis.”

On Wednesday, September 7th at 8 a.m., NYC Audubon is hosting a bird survey, where you can help count birds and other wildlife at McGolrick Park to see what species are using and benefiting from the urban garden. The bird survey is also taking place on Tuesday, October 4th.

The following week, on Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30 p.m., NYC Audubon is leading a free interpretive walk of the park’s native plant garden. They’ll highlight the native plants and will also point out birds, butterflies and other wildlife.

Driver with flat tire killed on BQE


A 49-year-old woman who pulled over to fix a flat tire on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway right over Apollo Street was struck and killed on Monday afternoon.

Police say that Aissatou Diallo, from Staten Island, had left her 2005 Chevy to fix her flat tire. A good Samaritan driving a 1997 Toyota Rav4 pulled up to help Diallo out.

While they were standing outside their cars, a 43-year-old driver, later identified as Vladimir Menin from Fort Lee, New Jersey, struck the Chevy from behind, which then hit the pedestrians.

Diallo was thrown over the highway barrier and into the roadway in Greenpoint.

Police found Diallo’s body on the pavement on Meeker Avenue, and she was immediately taken to Elmhurst General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Menin’s car, a 2011 BMW, continued to hit the Toyota Rav4 before it stopped. Menin was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

He has been charged with manslaughter, aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI (driving while intoxicated), reckless driving and aggravated unlicensed operator vehicle.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.

Caring for Java Street trees

Argument leads to skull bashing

Police are looking for a man who fractured another man’s skull after a verbal dispute.

On Thursday, August 4, at about 8 p.m., the 33-year-old victim was arguing with the suspect in front of 188 Bedford Avenue. The suspect, pictured above, went to go get a tire iron from a car nearby. He struck the victim in the head with the iron.

The victim was transferred by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital. He has a skull fracture, authorities say.

Shooting on Rodney Street

Police are looking for a man wanted in connection to a shooting yesterday at 4:35 a.m..

Authorities say a 31-year-old man was shot in his right leg near South 4th Street and Rodney Street in Williamsburg.

The victim was brought to a local hospital and is now in stable condition, police said.
